A History of Family Craftsmen | ||||||||||||||
There have always been skilled hands in the
Martin Family. Nicks father, John Martin, who is now retired, is a much respected
clock maker, known particularly for the much admired and acclaimed Martin & Roberts
Regulators, which were designed and made individually and entirely by him, with Nick
making the cases.A Liveryman of The Clockmaker Company, and a Freeman of The City of London, he now occupies himself with his hobby of building narrow gauge live steam locomotives. |

Before him, his father, Percival Holmes
Martin, was a professional portrait and land-scape painter, who exhibited at the Royal
Academy.Nicks grandfather on his mothers side was also an accomplished portrait artist, cartoonist and illustrator, submitting his work to national newspapers. Nicks great grandfather too, was a cabinet maker, and Nick still has many of his hand-tools, passed down through the generations. |
